Akon - Konvicted

This should be on every list. And definitely NOT on a list involving Christina Aguilera and Carrie Underwood, .

IMO Konvicted is the best album of 2006. It's silly good.

What can I say I like most genres so I put in my fav from each.

Akon is a rap album for the person who asked.

So what? So go in and school em.

Also, CMIs taste is very middle of the road, not obscure or hipster at all. Wait till you see my list.

[/ QUOTE ]

I can't stand any of the stuff he listed, I don't see how your list could be any worse.

[/ QUOTE ]

Uhh, have you listened to all of the bands on his list? Phoenix, for one, has a very basic sound... I can't imagine someone who likes rock/pop not being able to stand them. Same thing kind of goes for Belle and Sebastian... Everything he posted is definitely good though.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't like pop/rock.

[/ QUOTE ]

IC. Somehow I confused you with the OP. How do you feel about POS's new CD? Liking rap and being from MN, you must have heard it...

[/ QUOTE ]
I haven't heard it and tbh I'm not a big fan of the whole Rhymesayers crew.

Good to see all the love for The Format here.

For their quirkiness I'd go with "Oceans" and "Inches and Falling."

"The First Single" from their prior album is less quirky and a good one as well.

The entire album is ruined by the line "just kick it like tai bo" thats the worst [censored] line i've ever heard in the chorus of any hip hop track ever

Basshunter - LOL
The Roots - Game Theory
Lupe Fiasco - Food & Liquor
Cut Chemist - The Audience's Listening

OK, so that's only 4 - it usually takes a little while for the lesser-known stuff to trickle down to me.

On the Wu-Tang front: with the exception of a few tracks, I wasn't impressed with Fishscale, Made in Brooklyn, or 421. I did, however, rediscover the greatness of RZA's Birth of a Prince. Their older stuff is just so much better, IMO.

I think I might be a bit of a "hipster" but here is some music anyone who likes these genres might like (ie not "weird indie crap")

Rock:
Phoenix - Its Never Been Like That
-Upbeat fun rock
Secret Machines - Ten Silver Drops
-Rock, dark but not hard, if that makes sense...
The Thermals - Body, The Blood, the Machine
-Very very solid rock album with a punk twist.
The Hold Steady - Boys and Girl in America
-Always described as a bar band who sings drinking songs, but that is really selling them short. Think Bruce Springsteen for the next generation.
Band of Horses - Everything All the Time
-Slow, epic rock with possibly a hint of southern influence.
The Format - Dog Problems
-Somewhere between rock and pop... think... Maroon 5 only... good and with a better singer (who doesn't sound like he just got kicked in the balls)

Pop (I can't believe I'm doing this):
Justin Timberlake - best pop CD of the year imo
Other pop CDs that people seem to like that I can vouch for at least one song on:
Beyonce Knowles
Christina Aguilera
Shakira
Nelly Furtado

Indie Stuff for non indie people:
Neko Case
Asobi Secksu
Emily Haines
Camera Obscura
The Elected

[/ QUOTE ]
He will definitely NOT like Band Of Horses. I don't even think he would like the Hold Steady.

Also, Nelly Furtado has always sucked.

WhoIam,

I know you say all genres accepted, but its probably easier to get into something that is close to what you already like, so what type of music are you currently into?

[/ QUOTE ]
Well, I'm kind of ashamed to admit it, but I'm pretty clueless about music made after 2001. Before that I'm pretty solid. My tastes are really eclectic--everything from classical to hip-hop (lately I've been enjoying chopped & screwed mixes) to classic rock to prewar acoustic blues to folk to Sinatra to DJ mixes. There are very few bands I would rule out based just on their genre. The only things I wouldn't be interested in would be jazz (never could get into it), pop country, and 99% of US pop music.

That Jedi Mind Tricks album is unreal. I'm slowly working my way down the list and will probably be finished in time for next year.

Favorite track? I think track 4, Uncommon Valor has one of the best verses I've ever heard. Also, I will repeat this but pick up Violent By Design if you haven't heard it, it is better than this album.
