Default How to stick out marathon sessions and play close to your peak

Occasionally I will get in a game that I feel is just too good to leave, I sat playing for 16 hours and ended up up around 5 buyins. However towards the end I felt my game got a lot duller and I wasnt thinking things through. How do you keep focus in long sessions like this and what techniques do yoou use to stay more alert

a persons ability to stay focused on something is quite limited, i remember 40 min or something. thats why they have breaks at schools and workplaces. i dont think its possible to be fully focused on something for that long, its more about how high you can bring your B-game imo. i guess that comes over time when you dont encounter that many decisions any more that requires your full attention.

rinse, lather, repeat.

part of this would be to be in good physical shape. I play alot better right after a long run, or a tough aerobic exersize.

preparation before the marathon session is good. Afterall, you wouldn't see a marathon runner or cyclist eating beer and pizza before the event.

Exercise, preferably a good run on the treadmill or track, is great. Then eat a good meal before hand. There's plenty of material on the net or in books about eating right.

16 hour sessions are unhealthy in almost all respects. Unless running like god, rest and relaxation improve stamina and thought capacity and keep one from making numerous mistakes due to fatigue.
