We've got a couple things working for us here.

a) the ace is a scare card
b) the flush draw (which he could also have) missed, as did ALL straight draws
c) we still have 1 pair, which has showdown value.

We make every 8 and most J's fold for a river bet. I'd bet $7 on the river, and fold to a raise.

C/f. Villain has called two bets and has given you no indication that he has any intention on folding. The ace is a scare card, but so what? Why do you assume he is folding a jack because of it, and how do you know it didnt improve him?

T9, 67, or a flush draw are all hands he'd call flop and turn with, while folding the river for a bet.

I don't put him on AJ because he didn't raise preflop.

so if he has T9 or 67, why would we ever bet? let him bet.

I'm checking because I have the 5. I would bet if I didn't. You can do various things depending on how much he bets, but check/fold is pretty standard.

Because I don't want to have to decide whether or not to call a bet from a busted straight draw with my mighty pair of 5's.

Editted to add: I still like bet/folding.
