A while ago I posted the hand in which I laid down KK preflop for the first time that I can remember, and everyone said it was a horrible play. Here's a very similar situation with AA this time.

6-handed. UTG (loose, 45/15 stats) makes it 80 with 2300 behind. UTG+1 (a bit on the loose side and I recognize the name, but I don't think he's one of the top regulars, 30/15 stats) makes it 215 with 2000 behind, I'm next to act with AA and I cover.

While I have never mustered the nerve to pull off such a donk-looking move, I have seen AA min-reraise here on a decent number of occasions and it has always worked out well. You make a call seem very appealing for the reraiser and then he has trouble releasing from a big pot when a board of unders comes if he has an overpair whereas if the UTG player has KK or QQ he feels superweak laying down for not that much if he's not "sure" he's behind yet.

I know it seems stupid, but let's face it: anything you do here is going to be superscary, and a small raise helps you at least extract some chips if somebody thinks you're speeding. Somewhere between a minraise and a half-pot raise seem about right to me.

I agree with foxwoodsfiend - a small raise makes it look like you have JJ-QQ and are trying to "see" if he has KK-AA, and he may very well push; if he doesn't come over the top, I have a hard time seeing him folding preflop for so little more.

What would be his best option if he just ripped off a fellow 2p2'er for $50, like you did?

Make it 450. I really hate all the options here.

a) Big 3-bet only gets called by KK... and some people might even muck that.

b) Cold call is bad because any Axx or Kxx flop probably kills the action (presuming villian doesn't have KK). I suppose you could stack someone if 3 rags flop... but do we want to be letting people draw to sets for cheap?

c) Folding and pushing obviously both suck too.

I like raising to 450 for a lot of reasons.

a) Dude who made it 215 is getting 3.5+:1 on this call, and isn't folding.
b) You might actually get both of them to call... which can't be bad with this much money going in preflop.
c) Set draws are getting much worse odds than if you just call.
d) If 30/15 villian calls with TT-QQ and 3 rags flop... he's gonna have an awfully hard time folding when the pot is 1000 and there's only 1500 left behind for 3 rounds of betting. At the very least, you should get 600-800 out of him unless you completely botch it.

I also reraise here with KK, and AK maybe.
Cant play it always the same... although calling is very bad (if you just call, then bet a lot, he can even interpret that you hit a set)..

that's why it's good to have a superloose image.. when you reraise to 650 it should look standard

i push
