New Years Resolutions
Since tonight is New Year's Eve I've been thinking a lot about my goals in poker for the upcoming year. So I'm going to post what I hope to accomplish in 2007, and hopefully revisit this post throughout the year to make sure I'm on track.
1) Focus, Focus, Focus: Stop going into auto pilot mode when playing and instead, focus on every hand, every decision and realize I still have so much to learn. 2) Diversify: Once I have enough comfort within my BR, take at least 5-10 hours a week to diversify my skill set (more short handed play, and begin learning NL and eventually Omaha). By the end of the year I want to be comfortable playing in many more settings than I am now. 3) Read: set aside an hour every evening during the week to read or reread one of my poker books. 4) Post: I have always told myself I'd post more but motivation has been short lived. Every session I make mistakes and encounter situations that make me unsure of the proper response. I need to try harder to identify every time this happens, and if I can't figure out what I did wrong on my own, post here and check my ego at the door. 5) Health & Balance: Getting enough sleep, eating well and exercising my mind and body have really helped me with my poker game lately. I want to continue having healthier habits in my daily life. These are some of my goals for the upcoming year and hopefully this thread can continue to motivate me as 2007 progresses, what are some of yours? |

Re: New Years Resolutions
1) Hit my hands goals. Stop quitting after a few hundred hands just because I'm up X BBs.
2) Get organized. I bought a file cabinet & all sorts of other neat stuff that I plan to use in 2007. 3) Stop calling down with ace high against passive opponents. 4) Get out more. 5) Get the much-talked about but thus far unrealized weekly home game going. 6) Play more HORSE and learn not to suck as much at Stud. 7) Do two women at the same time (this has been a resolution since puberty). 8) Stop chasing losses. 9) Cut down on smoking. Of all kinds. 10) Make a trip or two up to AC to get in some live play, possibly even a live tourney or two. 11) Learn to cut my lists off at 10. |

Re: New Years Resolutions
1) Stop caring about small losses (ie. 25 BB)
2) Stop tilting because of small losses 3) Start caring about big losses after small losses 4) Publish more 5) Move up 6) Drink less, sleep earlier (6am + 10 beers != work at 9am == publish less != rule 4) 7) Start some SH sessions 8) Reread the books I have, middle limit hold'em first on list 9) Avoid getting talked into marriage |

Re: New Years Resolutions
1. Tighten up with Suited Connectors preflop
2. Tighten up facing a raise with hands like Ace Jack and King Queen 3. Don't be afraid to fold when I think I'm beat on the turn 4. BUILD A BANKROLL used just for poker (money management) 5. Move up to 4-8 limit hold em 6. Play No Limit Hold em Friday nights at the local bar 7. Play in more Poker Tournoments |

Re: New Years Resolutions
1 - be a good dad.
2- excersize more. Be in good enough shape by fall that I can walk 15 miles through the fields for pheasant hunting. 3- Eat better, and lose some weight. ( I haven't quite gotten to online pro size, and I want to back away from that some.) 4 - get in 180K hands this year. 5- I've won a Major event seat somewhere the last 4 years, do it again. 6- have fun, and get better at the HORSE game. Good luck, Play well, Happy New Year. Bob T. |

9) Cut down on smoking. Of all kinds. [/ QUOTE ] yeah, i don't smoke cigarettes. my poker resolution is to bluffraise less. i probably waste a couple BB a session on bluffraising(it isn't that i bluffraise xBB worth of plays, it's that i figure the portion of bad bluffraises less the good bluffraises less the extra action it induces nets out around there). i have similar problems in NL. if i bluffed half as often i would be a much richer man. i don't know, something just comes over me sometimes, especially when the pot is big(that is ESPECIALLY the case in NL; the pot gets big and i gets CRAZY!). often times it's when i've been playing for a while, i'm sort of card dead, and/or i make a bad read. i just need to simmer down, simmer down. my personal resolution is giving up something...secret.
