Yes.... come to the light.......
Thought check out the Pentax K10- amazing specs for the price. Shame about the state of the system, though.

I'm having a hard enough time deciding between XTi and D80 - Pentax has always made a decent camera for the price, a good value.

The Pentax does look cool - but I'm still going to look between Nikon/Canon. Among other things, "clients" tend to feel more comfortable with the brand recognition of Nikon or Canon.

Canon XTi - slightly better image quality than the D80. Autocleaning sensor.

D80 - Slightly better features than the Canon. Seems like a more rugged body.

Tough choice. Right now Costco has a Nikon D80 kit with TWO lenses and bag for 1299.

I might say that the D80 viewfinder seems darker than the Canon - though this may be because the camera was OFF. Costco didn't have a battery for the D80 to power it up. Anyone know if the Nikon viewfinder goes "dark" when powered off?

Guys,

I was messing around on ebay and I noticed that there are tons of 16mm film cameras from the $200-$800 range that are listed as "like new to very good" condition, and working. What is the deal? Why are they so cheap?

Probably because *ANYTHING* you'd want to shoot on 16mm, you can now do *better* with a $12,000 DVCPRO HD camera.

16mm is virtually DEAD as a format.

Yes. The D80 viewfinder is better than the XTi, check one with a battery out at Best Buy or something.

It was my understanding from reading online that Super 16mm is still used quite often to shoot independent films. Why is it a dead format?

I want to get into film making(dv), do you think i should start off with an SLR and learn with that first, and then move to cinematography, or should I just start with cinematogrpahy first?
