Re: WPT Poker by the Book 2 thread
How did McEvoy win his ME anyway? I can understand an aggressive donkey getting just the right mix of luck and fear (see Jerry Yang and Jamie Gold). However, a yellow-bellied nit would need a whole box of cold decks to do well, even against a weak fields like there were in 1983.

Re: WPT Poker by the Book 2 thread
Doyle was third that year, going out with J9d vs. 99 on a 9xx, two diamond flop.
McEvoy and the runner-up (Peate, I think?) then played the longest, nittiest heads-up match in main event history. I read somewhere that long, boring match was responsible for chasing TV coverage away until 1987. |

[ QUOTE ] Barry must've been mad for not getting his budweiser at the end. [/ QUOTE ] He actually refuses to hold one. [/ QUOTE ] I don't blame him. One of these sponsors could add at least a few bucks to the prize pool. |

-----""[ QUOTE ]
Might have to give McEvoy a vote for biggest fraud of a world champ. All the other champs who sucked probably got better eventually. Seems like he still sucks really, really bad ""----- --------------------------------------------------------- McEvoy has 4 WSOP bracelets, cashed at 4 events at this year's WSOP, won a PPT event in 2005 against the top players in the world and has made a living in poker for 30 years. The editing of the WPT show probably left out many hands where Greenstein ran over McEvoy heads up. McEvoy was probably getting raised every hand and was frustrated and had to make a stand with any decent hand. Greenstein is a great player. That doesnt make McEvoy a bad player. McEvoy has many more top-quality results than Varkyoni, Fowler, Gold and the other "lesser" Main Event champs. |

Have you heard of the Sklansky-Chubukov hand rankings? Basically, it's +EV to shove up to about 25 BB, which was close to McEvoy's stack size. The main argument for not pushing is that there are more profitable strategic options available. Normally this might be true, but not against Barry Greenstein. |

Re: WPT Poker by the Book 2 thread
Mike and VVP kept talking about how McEvoy felt slighted that he wasn't invited to the first Poker by the Book...
IMO he still shouldn't of been invited...get Doyle, TJ, or Hellmuth in there Tom gives himself too much credit |

You know who else didn't get invited to the first one? Chan, Negreanu, Harrington, Esfandiari, or Greenstein. Yet they didn't bitch quite as much...
