My symptoms to be clear are:
1. Always and only happens within first 6-10 hands after log in.
2. Never happens again, until the next log in.
3. The hand history just says I didn't respond in time. Not that I was disconnected.
4. This started with the last PS update. I have not updated PokerTracker in a while. And it occurs whether that is running or not.
5. I have the same computer and internet connection I've always had.

It's still playable, but a big hand in the first orbit is a gamble with the no all-in protection.

Any ideas to help would be great, as I fear PS has none.

I thought I was imagining this problem until I saw this thread. I'm not sure it happens within the first 6-10 hands, though.

has anyone checked whether this happens in observed games / games where you're sitting out? that would be an easy (but still lame) work-around.

please do not reply with a form letter about internet connections. there are ~20 people on twoplustwo.com describing the same problem ( http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showfl...#Post11038935):

with subject "WIDESPREAD PROBLEM: client freezing, but only very early in a session"

it'd be good if more people emailed.

Hi everyone:

We think we may have identified the cause of this and don't expect it to re-occur. If it does continue happening, please either email support@pokerstars.com with the subject line "PokerStars Freezing - attention HostJacob" or PM me here to let me know and we'll look into it further.

I'm having terrible problems tonight. Played earlier in the day and everything was fine.

Cleaned up my computer a bit and it continued happening.

I am not running PT or HUD, I am multitabling.

When I bring up a table, everything freezes, usually I don't time out on any tables, but it did happen several times.

I don't use the images, and when a player takes action the little box goes blank for a moment.

If the seat is empty, there's just the empty box, no words in it like usual.

When I attempt to "Cascade Tables", everything freezes like crazy, and at least one table won't cascade, will remain in a corner.

They responded back by asking for portions of my PokerStars Program Files.

I sent them what they asked for.

I reinstalled PokerStars over my existing files and it seems to be working OK now.

I think HostJacob and Stars deserve a lot of credit for addressing this and apparently fixing it so quickly.

How long did they have much worse lag at FT?
How long did Party deny that their disappearing-buttons bug even existed?

Most sites seem to have troubles even replicating the problem in the first place so they can't figure out what is wrong.
Stars saw the thread, heard the complaints, apparently didn't respond to e-mails with too many responses of, "it's your problem, not ours" and actually seem to have fixed it.

After I sent them the requested info, they emailed back saying they'd forward the info to the tech dept., from whom I've not yet heard anything.

I reinstalled on my own, I don't know if they've done anything.

But, as always I think their support is excellent, and I'm happy it's working now.

agreed, they handled this very well imo. it definitely helped that they could see that this was a widespread problem by looking at this thread.
