Can we get some clarification about just how many matches will be going down here? I didn't participate in HULA the last time, so you'll have to forgive my n00bishness. I actually have a bunch of questions.

When one team plays another, is it that each team member plays one person from the other team, and then the combined record of the team determines wins and losses, or do team members play multiple matches? Each team will eventually play each other team? Since you're proposing 5 teams, does that mean each team will have an off week, or should we have a 6th team so that everyone plays every week? How do we determine the draft order? Are we having alternates? Do they still have to pay the full entry fee? Do they get a cut of the prizes? How do we determine who plays who in a given match? Is it captain v. captain, 1st draft v. 1st draft, etc., is it random, or is it something else?

You are absolutely correct. I made a fundamental error in my earlier post.

There will be SIX teams, not five. The season will still last five weeks. There will be a few days break, and then the playoffs will last one week max.

So, a total of 6-7 weeks to complete everything and distribute prizes.

The schedule will look like

Week 1
Team 1 vs. Team 2
Team 3 vs. Team 4
Team 6 vs. Team 5

Week 2
Team 3 vs. Team 1
Team 2 vs. Team 5
Team 4 vs. Team 6

Week 3
Team 1 vs. Team 4
Team 2 vs. Team 6
Team 5 vs. Team 3

Week 4
Team 5 vs. Team 1
Team 4 vs. Team 2
Team 6 vs. Team 3

Week 5
Team 1 vs. Team 6
Team 2 vs. Team 3
Team 4 vs. Team 5

For matches...

Each person on the home team, or the team on the right, is matched up by the captain with a member of the opposing team. For weeks 1-4 each team should have two home matches and two away matches. Since we have an odd number of weeks, the home team in week five will be whatever team has more individual wins entering that particular week.

For the playoffs, the home team will again be the team with more individual wins.

The captains will always play each other, but other than that the playing order is determined by the home team captain.

I haven’t decided exactly how to do the draft order, but I'm thinking it will be random with the person picking first in the first round picking last in the second...you guys know the drill.

I'd like to have alternates as a few before have suggested, but the problem is if someone drops out halfway through and another signs up...how much does he owe? What we could do is have six person teams but the captain only picks five per week to play (captains of the 'visiting' determine which five of their guys will play before they are matched up by the captain of the 'home' team). In fact, as I'm writing this I like this idea more than alternates because then if there is an emergency for an individual player no one will get screwed/be worried about what they owe or get paid. So if no one objects I say we have a captain and five other players, but only a total of five players will be played each week. Captains - if you make sure everyone gets a fair shot at playing time there shouldn't be any problem...I think the easiest way would be to try and have everyone sit out one week during the season. Captains have the option of sitting out one week max if they wish.

Good questions, I hope I clarified things a bit.

Jon

Here are some more important questions:

(1) Who will be doing the draft-day commentary?
(2) Will people not drafted be able to play in a second-tier tournmanent, like the NIT?
(3) If I actually get drafted, but don't like my team, can I force a trade somewhere else, by acting like a selfish three-year old?
(4) Will there be endorsement deals for the lucky first-round draft picks?
