Default Good hotel near the Commerce? Also, want to harass fellow 2+2\'ers . .

Business is bringing me to San Fran on the weekend of November 3rd-4th, so I figured I'd use the occasion as an excuse to hit LA a couple days earlier -- specifically, the goofy games at le Commerce.

Can anyone recommend a reasonable place to stay/other tips? Never played there before. Wouldn't mind looking up a few of you lagtards, either. Planning on playing 20/40-40/80, FWIW. Sounds like they spread those all the time . . . ?

A great place to stay is at the Commerce itself.

D'oh! Look at that . . . for some reason I didn't picture the Commerce as a traditional big-ass Foxwoods-like casino. Not sure why . . .

They usually have 4+ tables of 20/40 and 2+ tables of 40/80 going even at like 6am on a tuesday. you're gonna love it dude.

also, book your room through the casino's website and then you can get the floorman to get you the poker room discount (~$25). if you book through orbitz or expedia or something i don't think you can get the discount.

also, check out bay101 when you're in the bay area--its no commerce but its def in top 5 poker rooms in the world for LHE.

Thanks for the advice, guys. Playing today through Friday at the Commerce, and Sat/Sun (when I'm not doing the business-stuff I'm supposed to be doing) at Bay101.

Any Commerce tips for a mid-limit (shorthanded) player, re the 20/40 and 40/80 games? And where the best place is to get breakfast/lunch/dinner (not even sure I have a lot of choices there, but in case I do . . . )

The Commerce denizens absolutely hate short handed play. Esp at $20-40, expect your table to break shortly if it gets 6 handed. Usually one or two more will walk, and the remainder will refuse to play.

At $20-40 and up, you can order food for free. Be prepared to tip $5 or otherwise have the food server stare at you like you killed their first born.

Otherwise, there is a deli, a snack bar, a buffet, a small sushi place, and a nicer looking restaurant. I think you can get most of that stuff served to you at the table also. BTW, if you tip the floor and put in some hours, they probably let you eat for free at an empty table. I know the floormen there always offer to have me served while I am waiting for a game and also when I leave.

Default How about if the Crowne Plaza is completely booked?

Minor hijack.

Friend and I are planning to go in January or February... obv if we go in Feb it'll be LAPC time and I believe the Crowne is already booked up for that time period.

Where's the recommended place to go stay then?

Damn, you weren't exaggerating. Was playing 40/80, table dropped to 6, two people walked away, and when I suggeseted to a guy that we play 4-handed he looked at me as though I had just killed his dog. And then eaten it in front of him.
