Re: Getting on a plane (ID expired)
My license expired once when I flew, I had to show a second government issued ID. Luckily I had my Social Security card on me. On the way back they didn't even notice.

Re: Getting on a plane (ID expired)
It seems that when they check my license, they only look for a sec or two, matching photo to you, and overall checking if the id is real. Even if they did notice your ID was expired, they'd probably let you through. If you're really paranoid, carry some other forms of ID. School, YMCA, Library, whatever.

Re: Getting on a plane (ID expired)
I recently learned that my license had been expired for a month when I was prevented from going through security at LAX. They sent me to the ticketing desk (didn't have to wait in line) to get a "special" boarding pass that had "SS" stamped on it (special screening?). I think I just had to show a couple pieces of backup at the ticketing desk. Then, when going through security, I got the bonus package. No big deal.
OP, just go a little earlier than usual to the airport. |

A friend of mine lost her driver's license before a flight. They let her board with only her photo student ID. This was post-911; however, her dad is a Delta pilot. Every airport has a different attitude on security, call them before you go. Even if they say no though, it's probably worth a try. [/ QUOTE ] I have done something similar. When I moved to Texas, I went and got a new license right away. However, it took a few weeks for them to make it and send it to me. I had to fly before then. I got to the airport and realized the only license I had was a paper temporary one. I used my student ID and got on without any trouble. This is also post 9/11. |

Re: Getting on a plane (ID expired)
Just don't tell them. If they notice, just explain what happened. I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. Do you have anything else that has your picture on it?

Re: Getting on a plane (ID expired)
To the best of my knowledge, flying requires a photo ID, but not valid photo ID. I flew with an expired license, and that just earned me automatic secondary screening (the SS). Basically, they hand search your bag and wand you.
