Help with splitting odd chip in O/8
I am a fairly new dealer working at the Commerce, and something came up the other week while splitting a pot between either 2 high - 1 low / 1 high - 2 low hands, that made me think I was doing something wrong. Say there are 67 chips in the pot after the river, there are either 1 high 2 low hands, or 1 low 2 high hands, you will have 2 stacks of 20 chips and then 2 stacks of 13 in front with 1 odd chip on top, the 1 high or 1 low hand gets paid first, but what happens with that odd chip? Does it go to which ever stack is getting quarted? I know between 1 high and 1 low the high always gets it, and then between 2 highs or 2 lows the player closest left of the button gets it, but I'm not 100% sure where that odd chip goes before you pay either the 1 high or 1 low hand while its stacked on top of the smaller stack in front. Any insight would be great. Thanks in advance.

Re: Help with splitting odd chip in O/8
Split the pot between the high and the low. The odd chip goes to the high half, whether it be one winner or four. If either half of the pot is split, the odd chip(s) will go to the player(s) closest the left of the button. In your specific example with one high and two lows, the high hand gets 34 chips, the low nearest the left of the button gets 17, and the other low gets 16. With two highs and one low, both highs get 17 chips and the low gets 33.

Re: Help with splitting odd chip in O/8
Interesting, because in all other games that have a dealer button I've ever played in, the player closest to the dealer button gets the odd (extra) chip.
It's standard practice in all games I've ever played in for the 4 or 5 years I've been playing now. |

Re: Help with splitting odd chip in O/8
CincyLady, that is still partly true in O/8, but the first decider of the odd chip is high hand. Then if there are 2 high hands or 2 low hands, the closest to the left of the dealer gets the extra chip in their half of the pot.

Re: Help with splitting odd chip in O/8
Don't be afraid to talk to your dealer captain. Tho' I dunno, maybe they're all jerks at Commerce? I had a ton of questions like this when I started, and my cap'n was quite helpful.
But good on you for coming here and asking about stuff. I wish more dealers were on here. Keep reading all the posts about rulings, then verify with your floor, as a lot of California rooms are goofy. |

In your example $67
1 high and 2 lows High gets 34, first low from the button gets $17. Second low gets $16 2 High 1 low Each high hand gets $17, the low gets $33. |

What psandman said sounds right, but check with your floorman. They do weird things in CA, like for example, in a split pot in Hold'Em, the highest non-playing kicker wins the extra chip. If the hands are identical, the highest suit rank takes it.

Re: Help with splitting odd chip in O/8
I was specifically refering to major socal cardrooms. However, I haven't played there in about 2 years, so it may have changed since then. But while I used to play, it was ruled 100% of the time the way I described it.

Indian casino maybe? |
