i know it's early wynton, but u don't think we should at least hold onto him and see what he's capable of?? my fear is that they'll trade him to get some mediocre pen help or a vet starter and since there aren't really any appealing ones available, i think we're shorting ourselves if we dump him this quickly...imo

That's my point. I'm saying that those who already have concluded that Gomez can't hit are totally overreacting. He's young and definitely has not had enough opportunity for anyone to write him off.

If you ask me whether to trade Milledge or Gomez, it would be Milledge no contest. That guy is going to be a headache.

Milledge can hit

we have martinez in the minors

gomez has a lot of trade value i think

so i would trade gomez in a package for a pitcher

Agreed. I'm thinking Johan Santana.

heh, but on a serious note, i don't see the mets spending too much money this offseason as the options are not great...that being said, delgado, green come off the books next year as does glavine in case he does exercise his option (assuming the mets don't have a buyout, which i doubt though)...i think pedro does also (4 yr??)...

a lot of this money should be spent going after santana coz needless to say, that type of pitcher is not coming around often

Suigin,

Green should come off the books this year. I highly doubt the Mets exercise his $10 million option for the 2008 season. We shouldn't see him in a Mets uniform again.

Delgado, Pedro, Glavine (if player option is exercised), El Duque, Alou (if team option is exercised) & Mota all have their contracts end after the 2008 season.

2008 Salaries for the above players:
Delgado - $16m
Pedro - $11m
Glavine - $9m (Mets can buy him out for $3m)
Duque - $6.5m
Alou - $7.5m (Mets can buy out for $1m)
Mota - $3.2m

that's $47.2 salary total for 08 (assuming glavine gets bought out)...no way do the mets spend that much this summer, so when santana and i think peavy among others hit FA after next year, the mets should be aggressive players with enough space...

i hate giving up on this offseason, but i think signing linebrink and getting some stopgap relievers is really the best the mets can do here imo...and try to save up and get younger pitching for the future coz this rotation can easily fall apart and give even fewer innings...it's really vulnerable as is and then pedro and duque will be gone after next year, well at least duque will...

I just read on metsblog that Glavine is leaning towards declining on his 2008 player option. He also has to decide by this Friday, so we shall know soon enough.

Back to the Braves he goes.

Pedro - Perez - Maine - Duque? - Pelfrey? - Humber?

meh, i can't see how glavine could return to the team after his last performance, but if he is smart, he may try force a buyout coz i don't think the mets want him back either...

i'd love to see humber at least get a shot, but i'm guessing minaya will sign an older vet like a livan hernandez, colon, or God forbid weaver to appease the fans, which i'm afraid may push humber back 1 year
