Default Re: New Radiohead album - Pay what you think is fair??

I love radiohead and love most of their albums. I however paid nothing for the album, as they are already filthy rich!
I will however support them by going to to at least one of their concerts when they tour, and have already seen them twice in the UK in the last few years. I don't think paying £0 is being a nit, i see the album as a free gift to all life long radiohead fans

It is 160kbps MP3. The ~50MB zip file took me less then three minutes to download, so they must be prepared from a bandwidth standpoint.

question - anyone know if there is album artwork to go with the download? iTunes feels naked without an image.

www.rateyourmusic.com is where I get all my album artwork. There are usually pretty big images too, if you're a resolution nit like me.

A simple GIS usually works too though fwiw.

Gus,
It is very unlikely this will lead to a new way of distributing albums. This seems like a gimmick by Radiohead to make a lot of money and people will be willing to pay one time, but when they realize they can get all the music/art/film they want for free they will likely stop paying.

[/ QUOTE ]

what if that's the intention and they're trying to get the ball rolling on a new model for the industry as a whole, where albums are used as a marketing tool to buy tickets, merch, etc?

Yeah, me too. My original plan was to not bother with it today, but the people upthread suggesting the downloads were looking good inspired me to give it a try. I can't get past the ordering page though.

If they are getting 10 bucks a pop on average, and it goes straight to the band 100%...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that WAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY more than the actual band would get if the physical CD sold for like 17-18 bucks?

Yes.

I think I'm going to pay ~$6, when I finally manage to order the goddamn thing.

Yeah, but no way are they averaging $10 a pop (at least not on downloads alone; if you factor in the discbox then maybe).

Wow downloading at 600KBS on my wireless cable. So sick it finished in about 45 seconds. I paid $0 because I'm poor.

Googogo radiohead though.
