It depends on whether I like the kid or not.

Sounds like the kid has a personal problem. Who am I to say the dog isn't justified in what he's doing? I'd need to see both sides of the story before taking any action.

Wow. You´re all very confident you will be able to defeat a pitbull in a serious fight. I don´t have much experience with that, but i would say those beasts can turn around quite quickly to snap some sensitive parts of your body with their teeth and injure you for life.. have you ever thought of that? I already said in OP that i would do the same btw, but I had to ponder alot harder what to do after i had seen some victims of pitbull attacks in some TV show which had lost their faces / balls...

I'm not at all confident, but if it's got some kid then getting it to let go and turn on you is the purpose of the exercise.

If I don't know the kid I'm walking away.

Risking personal injury for the wellbeing of some random kid is -EV.

You straddle it, and grab the front legs and wrench them apart, breaking them. Then you try and pull it off the guy, yell at him to move away, and then thow the dog down. This should stop it moving around. You can then bash its brains in with a tire iron or similar (for compassion's sake - it's gonna be in agony).

Aren't Doberman Pinschers even more fearsome then pitbulls?

I've never fought a dog or seen a pitbull in action before, but it would seem to me you could just run up and give it a really hard kick to the head as it was attacking the child. How would this not work?

The child's head is in the dog's mouth.
