I will be making a business trip to San Jose at the end of the month and I will make my first visit to Bay 101...Has anyone ever played the lower limts Holdem games there, and what was your overall experience with Bay 101?
Thanks |

Two links first:
http://poker.wikia.com/wiki/Bay_101 POST: Where to play in the Bay Area? And to specifically answer your question, Bay101 is a very nice cardroom. It has a clean and bright atmosphere and the action is terrific. I would avoid 2/4 and play only 3/6 or better yet, 6/12 if your BR can manage Lot of gamblers here that love to chase, so tread carefully. |

Re: Bay 101 - San Jose, CA
2/4 hasn't run at Bay 101 in months. The place is very busy, 5 tables of 5-200 spread limit on weekends, where they used to rn only 1 or 2. 2/4 was sacrificed to make room.

yup, they usually have ?? 3/6, 5-6 6/12, ans 2-3 8/16 game running. 5 or so 5/200 spread (max buy-in 200), and 1-2 10/200 spread (min $400/max $1000) plus a bunch of 20/40 and up.

Yes, Bay 101's gotten rid of 2-4, but there's a ton of 3-6 and 6-12. This place is very popular, though, and can get some huge waitlists. You will also want to print out the directions to Garden City, which is only a few miles away, which has comparable low-limit action. Good luck!

They will sometimes have up to 6 going, but when they get a list for 20-40 or 5-200, they break one, make the others 10-handed (normally 9-handed). Lists can be brutally long and the Floor puts 'regulars' into games ahead of the list. |

Re: Bay 101 - San Jose, CA
Bay 101 is IMO the cleanest and most well-lit cardroom in SF Bay. I can wear my darkest sunglasses in there and still see everything no prob. The wait times are horrendous at peak hours, as has been mentioned. The other drawback is it has a cold, impersonal feel. You can avoid the wait time problem if you go there off-peak -- between, say, 2AM and 9AM?
I usually go for their Omaha game, which takes forever to get into. The Omaha game can be very good, or a little on the tough side depending on who's there. I'll play 3/6 while I'm waiting for that. I've seen loose/wild and tight/passive 3/6 games there but nothing that was hard to beat with solid ABC play. I am not properly rolled to play 6/12 or their 5-200 spread limit HE. I think Garden City is in general quite a bit softer, but it's a bit trashier also. Their 4/8 Stud 8/b game is usually fun and easy, a change of pace. & I have played their 3/100 spread limit HE and found it ridiculously soft. |

Re: Bay 101 - San Jose, CA
I mainly play low limit, mostly 3/6, on Friday nights. I have found that Garden City has shorter waiting lists and usually more loose passive low limit then Bay 101. On Friday nights they seem to usually have 5 or 6 3/6 tables going and 2 or 3 2/4 tables.
Garden City recently changed hands. The new owners are remodeling. The restaurant is all tore up, but you can still get food service at the tables. |
