Default NBA 2007-08 Week 1 Thread (10/30 - 11/5)

Not sure how the NBA threads are usually done here, but I figured I'd go ahead and make one for the first week of the season.

Plays for Tuesday 10/30
Golden State -3.5 vs. Utah, risking 1.1u to win 1u

I rate the Warriors as slightly better than the Jazz in a neutral setting at this point in the season. Golden State also had by far the largest home/road differential (18 games!) in the regular season last year. The Jazz don't match up well here, they will be forced to play GS's style of game and they won't be able to keep up with them.

I'm a huge Spurs fan but don't like picking them to cover large spreads, so no play vs. Portland.

LAL/HOU line has been moving strongly, presumably due to the latest Kobe drama. If it keeps moving to +5.5 or +6, it's a good pick for the Lakers at home.

Obviously they did, but one of the biggest disappointments for me was that GS wasn't up 3-0 to open the series. IIRC, they led in the final minute of games 1 and 2, one game by a sizeable margin.

Tuesday, October 30:

San Antonio -13.5
Brandon Roy and Darius Miles will be out for Portland. My number says SA by 22.

Golden State -3.5
This one should be close and GS is good at home. Injuries: Stephen Jackson (GS), Matt Harpring (Utah).

Do you happen to know of a place that has historical quarter lines for the NBA? Want to try something out this year

Also curious on this point. This article would suggest he'll be playing, but this would be a quick play if it turns out he won't be playing.

Any news appreciated.

The above looks terrible now, but not much I can do other than let it ride.

Added:
Spurs/Blazers under 190, to win 0.5u

Jarrett Jack will start at point guard tonight, McMillan said, rounding out a starting lineup that also has Roy at shooting guard, Webster at small forward, Aldridge at power forward and Przybilla at center. McMillan said the second unit will include Steve Blake at point guard, Outlaw primarily at power forward, with some action at small forward, and Channing Frye, who will play center and power forward. James Jones will be the small forward on the second unit. The reserve shooting guard will be a rotation among Roy, Blake and Jack. . . . McMillan said he plans to start the game by not double-teaming Spurs star Tim Duncan. Przybilla will get the first crack at Duncan, McMillan said. . . . The Blazers exercised options that extended the contracts of Aldridge, Roy, Webster, Frye, Jack and Sergio Rodriguez by a year. The extensions keep the six players under contract through the 2008-09 season.

This is from THE OREGONIAN, portland newspaper.
