I spoke to a tax lawyer who is a partner at the biggest firm in montreal. She grew up with my parents and has been friends with them for years. Not 100% guaranteed, but id be incredibly surprised if she was wrong. Shes brilliant and knows her [censored] about taxes.

t-god i have talked with two tax dudes who have said the same thing as what ahnuld said.

ahnuld, do you know how exactly taxes work if youre not a full time student in canada? because i am now, but wont be next year and poker will be my only income... ive talked with a tax guy who said the gambling laws are so vague that i shouldnt pay any taxes next year either... this sounds very suspicious to me so im wonderin if any other canadians have heard stuff to the contrary...

If it's your primary source of income you have to pay.

link, source, etc.

i obv will talk with a bunch of people, but im just trying to get as much info as possible because it sounds like a lot of authorities on this issue have differing views.

thanks for the help

also, what would stop someone from saying, yeh i make a bunch online but i chunk off live and then pay significantly less taxes than you should?

Obviously they cant check if you lose all your money in casino. But if you declare 50k and you live in 500k house it could be problem.
