Re: Absolute Poker Scandal: An Inside Job
Hay guys...
Steven Levitt wrote about this again today. For some reason I cannot link on my comp right now- so if someone could simply google absolute poker in a news search and link to all the breaking stories that would be awesome. Edit: to make clear... this is in the NY Times today. someone please link it. |

Re: Absolute Poker Scandal: An Inside Job
ape,
I don't think it's online yet. I searched the NYT page and all I found was his article from mid-September. EDIT: And this is why I lose. |

It's there- that's the only way I knew about it. Then Netstorm and Whiz linked it.
PokerKing is also up to date now as far as yesterday's info goes, with a link to Nat's blog entry. |

Re: Absolute Poker Scandal: An Inside Job
First two comments are kind of depressing:
#1. October 17th, 2007 9:58 am I think the REAL lesson here is that gambling in a virtual world is a gamble in and of itself. — Posted by discordian #2. October 17th, 2007 10:03 am Prison time, for an online scam outside the US? Trust, when we have no idea how many such things have happened that weren’t so blatant and weren’t discovered? Online isn’t the way to play, folks… — Posted by Panem et Circanses I think we need to brace for a lot of this if this story hits mainstream. But I still firmly believe it will be good for the game in the long run, as painful as it may be in the short term. |

Re: Absolute Poker Scandal: An Inside Job
There is nothing wrong with statement #1, and trying to argue against it will do more harm than good for poker.
Why not focus on #s 3 and 7 instead? #3. October 17th, 2007 10:13 am who is gonna put the cheaters in prison? the chilean government? these guys aren’t allowed to operate in the us. collusion, the act of several people playing co-operatively, is also rampant on internet poker though not as lucrative. unfortunately real money gambling sites aren’t regulated by our government. — Posted by joon #7. October 17th, 2007 10:59 am What an idiot! Not suprising that he/ they would be tempted, but a large online poker site like Absolute must have been making money hand over fist and to risk it all just to win a few hands! I would not be suprised if similar schemes ended up surfacing now. The only solution would be to legalize it here in the US, you can be sure that MGM would not be caught doing these paltry parlor games. — Posted by Phx |
