know nothing about laptops, guys help me make the right purchase?
Both of the below units are the exact same price, and seem like good deals. I was leaning towards one model, but would like to make an informed purchase. Here are the specs/links below
- IBM Thinkpad model T22 - 1GHz Pentium III processor - 256mb RAM - 20GB hard drive - DVD-ROM Drive - Floppy Drive - Bluetooth - USB/VGA/Serial Ports - new Linksys wireless card 54g/805.11b - Batter that holds charge - Windows XP Pro Installed - Microsoft Office Installed - 14" lcd display/no dead pixels - Logitech Optical Mouse - heavy duty laptop bag - power adapter Ebay link for Thinkpad (owners comments) "...my processor is a little faster, that one has a little more storage space. i will also throw in a Linksys 54G wireless router if you want. I am not sure what year the laptop was made in. I think 2003/4. " *other guy's* - Gateway 450SX4 - 1.8 ghz P4 - 15 inch screen - wireless keyboard/mouse - Windows XP pro - extra battery - Laptop case - Netgear wifi card (owner comments) ".....just got it cleaned (?), its a 2003 model, I guess I could throw in the case, and keyboard + mouse and the extra battery(thanks because you never know when you might need an old laptop battery) ......" specs on Gateway I was going to go with the gateway, but I just wanted to make sure that thinkpads weren't bad ass or something. As far as price both are $280 but the Thinkpad guy offered to trade his Thinkpad + $200 for my Dell 2405fp 24" monitor, which I happened to be selling for $480 on the same site - which makes for one stop shopping but thats all |

Re: know nothing about laptops, guys help me make the right purchase?
I've personally always been a fan of Thinkpads.... there always extremely solid computers and will always have the best mouse and keyboard (over other laptops)... the thinkpad+200 seems like a really good deal if you want to part with your monitor...
... I wouldn't worry to much about storage space (20 Gigs is plenty as long as your not putting your music/video collection on here or playing newer games on it) but speed is a big factor if you're going to multitable or run HUD with these... but I'm no expert so I won't comment on this. |

Re: know nothing about laptops, guys help me make the right purchase?
so not much diff between 1.8P4 and 1.0P3? I play poker
and surf mostly, I download but usually ot while playing/etc don't run HUD and only 2-table, I actually wanted something kinda quick It is kind of easy to kill 2 birds with one stone here, but the guy did offer me 400 for the Dell monitor so I could just do that and buy the Gateway and be +$120 with more transaction dealings. Might just try to get the guy to kick $220 or $240 because I have to go get a wifi card for it. thanks for responding, would love to hear more responses |

Re: know nothing about laptops, guys help me make the right purchase?
This is not even close. The Gateway is a much better deal. Good luck trying to get anything accomplished running XP Pro on a P3 with 256mb RAM. I don't know what size HD or how much RAM is included with the Gateway (you should find out), but it's a better deal than the Thinkpad.

I bought a new Sony Vaio last month and have been getting on really well with it - I'd recommend them. Great styling, runs fast, does everything I want it to.
