Bottom set and board keeps getting worse.
Villain is 16/7/3.5 have not seen him get out of line. I didn't move on the turn because I wanted a call.

Bad spot and you lose often but no other way to play this I think. You cannot fold river getting those odds.

Re: Bottom set and board keeps getting worse.
Hi, I'm a tourney player trying to learn cash so forgive me if this is a stupid question but, is the preflop raise standard in this situation?
From the cut off or button I can see a raise to isolate the limper and play our possition, but is it not better to just limp behind with a hand like this from mp2? Does it depend on how you assess the players behind you? |

Re: Bottom set and board keeps getting worse.
These 1-2$ tables are extremely weak tight, I find. That raise often picks up the limpers money and the blinds, or you pick it up on your continuation bet.

Re: Bottom set and board keeps getting worse.
Does that mean that you'll always come in for a raise with any hand you're going to play if there's a limper in the pot?
What if the limper is UTG and you're UTG+1 with a small pair or similar, overlimp then? What if theres 2 or 3 limpers? Does it come back to reads on the players behind, or do you assume most players at this level are weak? Sorry, if all of this is obvious |

Re: Bottom set and board keeps getting worse.
Yeah, I routinely come in with a largeish raise on 2 or 3 limpers from late position and expect to pick it up preflop quite often. I don't do it all the time, I try to have some kind of hand- it gives me good frequency of doing this stuff. I honestly don't get played back at nearly as much as I expected (and certainly nowhere near as much as when I played limit). The really wild 40s-60s VPIP people I tend to avoid doing this with, because they tend to get a little crazy and clingy with any part of a flop. With those guys you need to pick up a hand and they most often do the betting for you.

I raise the flop harder. Turn bet is fine.

I raise the flop harder. Turn bet is fine. [/ QUOTE ] why raise the flop harder? you're going to fold out all queens on the flop, all jacks, and a lot of draws. |
