Default Do I have to pay up on this bet?

A friend and I who play TEH P0KAH live virtually every weekend always invite another guy who plays in our regular home ring game. He has two kids and his wife is, let's say, less than enthusiastic about him going to play. Bottom line is she wins. Like always.

Anyways, he calls me early this week and says "Hey are you gonna go to T(reasure)I(sland) (in Minnesota) on Friday?" I'm like LDO. He says he's coming with and he'll be there for sure. We agree to leave around 7-7:30 PM.

Well I call the guy I always go with and tell him. He says he doesn't believe it for a second and he'd bet me to this same effect. We start talking about betting half racks and such, but agree on the loser buying the winner dinner/breakfast/whatever you want to call it whenever we're done with our session early Saturday morning. He takes the "not going", I take the "going".

Later that day, I get an e-mail from another buddy of mine asking if I remembered his fantasy basketball draft was Friday at 7:00 PM. I never got an e-mail invite and he only mentioned to me offhand so why the hell would I remember? It's fantasy [censored] basketball.

He kinda starts acting like a 13-year-old girl and goes on about "he needs me in the league" and "finding another owner on short notice".

Bottom line is even though he mentioned it only offhand, I still promised I'd be there. So I call my poker crowd and say I'm not leaving until 9:00 or later when the draft ends.

My poker-regular friend is OK with this, but the guy we bet on is not. He goes on about "getting no sleep before the weekend all day with the kids" and "being out all night" and drops out saying "leaving when you are now is just too late for me...some other time".

So I'm telling this to the guy I'm going with today and he says "you're paying up right?" I'm tell him I made the bet under the premise we were leaving around 7:00 PM or so and knew the guy who dropped out wouldn't go if it was later at night so I never would have bet. My friend is insistent saying "you aren't backing out of this one". I ask if we can find something equally as dumb to bet on double or nothing. He says he's going to enjoy food on me.

Do I have an arguement here since I made the bet under the premise of us going at the original time? Or do I just have to pay up?
