Calling a mixed drink with vodka a martini is like calling a patty of turkey meat a hamburger (or turkey burger, if you will).

Drink gin or call it something else, dammit.

I just want to comment that the OPs namesake is the best dessert known to man, and if you ever get a chance try one out.

Coming from Europe, I always think of the Italian vermouth when I hear martini.

Exactly what I think every time I hear "Martini". It seems way too retarded if a Martini is used for everything in a martini glass.
I'm not sure if I prefer my martini with vodka or gin, both are delicious

This thread inspired me, and I needed a drink tonight. Took my shaker, poured a bit of vermouth in, swirled around and poured it out. Added ice, Bobmay Sapphire, shook well, poured, added 3 small olives.
