Somehow I lost 6 buyins at 3/6 and over 7 buyins at 2/4 today. My downswing tally is up to 27k now. I haven't cashed out in 2 months, and I'm down to only 16k in poker accounts now. That's probably not enough of a roll to play 3/6 anymore... but then, if you are a losing player, no amount is enough of a roll.

I guess I have no choice - I will start sending out resumes and contacting recruiters tomorrow. This really sucks, because it almost certainly means I'm going to have to move to someplace with a tech sector, and that means leaving behind beautiful Hawaii, all of my wife's family, our support network, etc. Right now we live rent free with my in-laws, which is particularly awesome due to built-in baby-sitting and all the help they give. Our whole lives are going to change because I've completely lost both the ability to play good and to run good.

[/ QUOTE ]
I know how it can be, trust me. I had a 72k downswing over 5 weeks in july/aug and owed that much to a friend whose roll I play off of, (long story). Not the thing you want to happen when your wife is about to have your third kid and wants to take 6 months off from work,( Course, I'm still owed ~60k from various people who have paid about 1k of that back since.) I was thinking I'd have to go back to selling tires or something, but have gotten that # down under 15k in 6 weeks in only ~115 total hours of play. I plan on being + again by the end of the month, which, believe me, when you are staring owing 72k to someone in the face, is a HUGE relief to handle in 2 months. Best suggestionI can make as someone who was VERY recently worse off than you are now, ( and still not yet out) is take as much time off as you can and clear your head. Tighten up your game, bet more, call less. And take advantage of that built in babysitting to de-stress. I know I wish I had that....

GL man, things get better.

My roomate bought the new Professional NL book, so I read it and I must say that I am very dissapointed. Anyone else here read it?

[/ QUOTE ]

Matthew,

I had debated buying it but heard that it was not very good for anyone beating small stakes and up. I'm thinking if Bobbo get's his book published it will be the only decent book on the market for midstakes+ NL.

[/ QUOTE ]

[ QUOTE ]

There is an "if" ?

[/ QUOTE ]
It was recently rejected by 2p2 because they've committed to too many books. (Harrington on cash which should be more then 1 volume, the PNL series which is more then 1 volume, and HU book) So I need to contact other publishers. The news was a bit upsetting obviously so the question of when certainly has been replaced with if.

It's still the money favorite to get published, but no longer a sure thing.

Also, I liked PNL. After reading it though, I think what I say takes for granted everything in that book, so, yeah... It's fairly basic, and preaches some weak tight play, (ignores some costs and focuses on what I think is the "wrong" thing) but is a good book.

Harrington on Cash? That made me LFHOL (yeah, laugh f*cking hard out loud!). No Thanks!

I suppose the wider market with all the TV poker stars worshiping folk are familiar with DH but I think Bobbo's book would get a great return from 2+2 alone. I haven't bought a poker book in aaaaages but I would definitely buy Bobbo's.
