Bad live play. $125 MTT
The Reno Hilton (now Grand Sierra) runs a "Pot of Gold" series a couple times a year. I always get mildly excited for it, then I show up and am usually dismayed by the juice, structure and quality of the play. Today was $125 + $25, 2000 chips, 25-50 50-100 100-200 150-300/25 etc. 30 min levels.
Blinds are 50-100. Hero is in MP wth AJo and open-raises to 325. Folded to SB who calls. BB folds. Stacks about equal at around 2000. Flop: A-Q-4 rainbow. SB checks. Hero bets 400, SB calls. Turn: T completing rainbow SB checks, Hero checks (?) River: 9 SB checks. Hero ??? I had to ask myself what hands I could beat. I couldn't come up with many. |

Re: Bad live play. $125 MTT
what are you scared of?? you have tp, good kicker. you're behind to JK, 8J, TT, QQ, QQ, 44, 99. live players often suck. with this structure you need to accumulate chips fast. I would've bet turn and river. you'll get called down by worse hands live. smaller aces, even second pair.
BTW, lol at the 20% juice. |

Re: Bad live play. $125 MTT
It sounds like you're giving your opponents way too much credit here. Live $125 MTT = $5 online tourney, at best. Value. Bet. I assumed you checked the turn either because you either feared a CR because of some sort of read (not very likely), or to set up a value-bet on the river that might not have been called if you bet all 3 streets. If he has anything that has you beat, there's a good chance he'll lead out on the river. Your flop bet and turn check is consistant with a continuation bet after not improving on the flop. He can't be sure if you'll bet behind him or if you'll just check it down.

I like it - I suppose you checked behind on the river.

I don't mind the turn check for pot control, but you must bet the river. You would've heard from the hands that beat you by now, and you're probably getting called by the Ax's you beat, since it may look like you're bluffing the river.
