Re: More Bonds
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I read I Had A Hammer many times, admittedly when I was a kid, I don't remember one sentence about amphetamines. Someone post a link or copy and paste pls. [/ QUOTE ] Turn your book to page 268. [/ QUOTE ] On page 268, Aaron states: "Actually, the 1968 season wasn’t the best time to present my case. It was the first time since my rookie year that I didn’t drive in or score 100 runs. I was so frustrated that at one point I tried using a pep pill—a greenie—that one of my teammates gave me. When that thing took hold, I thought I was having a heart attack. It was a stupid thing to do…” |

[img]/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img] You'd be hard-pressed, however, to find that passage cited in SI or any other major sports media outlet over the past 5 years amidst their glorification/explotation of Hank with the intention of villifying Bonds. It would have complicated the issue, and they wanted it simple... good vs evil. EDIT: You should quote the passage directly above that where "the case" he is presenting is elaborated. His open jealousy of Mays is often forgotten, and if Barry were to write something similar , he would be lambasted for being an envious prick. In his own book he admits his jealousy of Mays drove him to try illegal substances to enhance his performance. |

[/ QUOTE ] I'm not criticizing Aaron at all. I have tremendous amount of admiration and respect for Hank. What I am bringing to light is that the sports media is quick to villify Bonds and insinuate he made and admission when he didn't and then conveniently fail to ever disclose in their glorification of Aaron in several articles in the last 5 years that he himself had admitted to using illegal substances. I mean c'mon, the majority of people in this thread are JUST NOW learning that Aaron openly admitted to taking greenies 15 years ago. |

[/ QUOTE ] but you realize the bonds defenders are using the same defense. i suppose im not wording it very well. ill try to spell it out. aaron admits to using greenies one single time. you say, "lolol of course he used it more." circumstantial evidence mounts that bonds roids and you guys revert to "well hes never been caught and didnt admit to anything." same with armstrong btw. i dont know where i personally stand and havent researched enough but im just pointing out some credibility issues with redbean. mebbe its nitpicking but whatever. if he woulda been completely forthright i would be like 90% on his side at this point bc his other arguements were pretty damn good. but, instead im about 50/50 which is far more than before i opened this thread. |

Re: More Bonds
I guess this needs to be repeated :
RedBean is not saying that he doesn't think Bonds does steroids. He is just noting the [censored] ridiculousness of the whole Bonds is an evil baby raper and Hammerin Hank is a saint thing. |

Re: More Bonds
I always get annoyed at these threads and it's like "God damn not another [censored] Bonds thread."
Then Redbean completely destroys everyone using rational and logical arguments complete with facts and evidence and it's [censored] awesome. |
