UTG calls, CO calls, Button calls, Hero calls, BB checks.

Flop: 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] ($5, 5 players)

<font color="#cc0000">Hero bets $14</font>, UTG calls, <font color="#cc0000">Button raises to $54</font>

Vill is 19/14/4, seems ok. I thought he would raise the flop with the straight (unless he has the straight and flush draw). Would he play a bigger set like this, waiting for a safe turn?

i doubt he has a straight or set because with the caller inbetween you and him he wont want to give free cards to be outdrawn.

i would guess he has something like Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] or K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. shove it.

He should raise a set/straight on such a drawy flop. He doesn't have QQ or 99, and prob not even 77 if he is any good. You are good here so often vs. this opponent. Fist pump/then shove.

Just because he SHOULD raise the flop with a set doesn't mean he will. Most people suck at poker. So, a set or a straight are both entirely possible. However, so're all the two pairs and draws, so let's just put the money in right now: If we call and wait for the river, there're so many cards that either kill our action or give us a really tough river call.

Also, raise PF.

Raise preflop. Flopping a set in an unraised pot sucks big time.

I raise 66 from the SB in a multiway pot 100% of the time. What is our aim by calling?

I raise because:

1. We don't want to play a multiway pot with a small pair because we reduce out equity by doing so; 66 performs best against one or two opponents.

2. We don't want to play a small pot if we hit a set because we reduce our winnings.

3. We don't mind playing OOP because small pairs are pretty much the easiest hands to play OOP.

4. We might just win the pot preflop, which is fine (as it's a couple of BB already, which is what you'll average with small pairs long term anyway)

5. It is more consistent with our overall play. If we raise here with only big pairs/AK, it's obvious what we have. We need to be raising with weaker hands here too.

95% of the time, yes. It's not a multiway pot in this case, it's just a bunch of limpers with mediocre hands. Often you take down the pot right there with a slightly over pot bet (7-8). If not, a c-bet against one caller) will take it down the majority of the time when he doesn't hit. And when you do hit a set against multiple opponents you're very likely to stack someone.

EDIT: Think about why people limp in.. they think they have a hand that's not worth raising with. And when you make that big raise you scream I AM STRONG and it will be very hard for people to call with their weak hands, not mentioning calling if they do decide to see a flop.

But of course it's always table/image/villain dependent.
