lol...I was about to post making exactly the same mistake.

I lean toward a check but raising a late position bet is still an option.

I guess I'll finish the story:

I bet, got a mid-position caller, then a late position raiser from a ABC player (he has a J), and I call in the gigantic pot (12 SB preflop plus 4 SB postflop). The turn is a T, giving me the gutshot plus a discounted 3 overs to the board and I check to LP-ABC and call (9:1), and now MP check-raises. We both call (after exchanging somewhat disgusted looks with each other). The river is a flush of blank and I check-fold. MP bet the river and after a long pause, LP called (he was trying to see what I was planning to do).

MP tabled 42s for the flopped trips and LP tells me in some chat later that he had JT.
