Re: Mini-Trip Report: Artichoke Joes’ new no-limit game.
This game is still so itsy-bitsy . They need a 5/5/10 20-to-go game much more.

That game met its death on January 1st, 2007 when Lucky Chances reinstated its 10-10-20 40 to go, $2000 minimum buy-in no-limit game. Go there if you don't want "itsy-bitsy". Garland |

Re: Mini-Trip Report: Artichoke Joes’ new no-limit game.
Nice TR Garland. I spent the day playing 6/12 limit at the table next to the 1-2-2 game and was thinking of playing NL, but I suck so bad at NL and I was so confused at AJ's that I decided to stick to a game I knew.
Actually the 6/12 game had pretty decent players, some of those people actually had some tricky moves. Left -15BB in 2 hours, which is not surprising because I haven't beaten a 6/12 game in about 2 years... I think with the structure, the AJ NL game is probably the best small stakes NL game in the bay area. |

Re: Mini-Trip Report: Artichoke Joes’ new no-limit game.
i might go play this game on friday night or something - i just turned 21 two months ago and AJ's is only 20 minutes from me - score!
but anyways, i've never played a time-rake game. how does that work? do you have to pay 6 dollars from your stack every half hour? that sounds like a lot to me, paying $12/hour to play 1/2 nl. actually, nevermind. i just worked out the math, and it looks like the time charge costs about the same or slightly less than a raked game, assuming the average rake/pot is like $4. but yeah, how does time-charge work? if i sit down like 10 minutes before they're about to collect a new time charge, do i have to pay $6 now and another $6 in 10 minutes? |

You can go to Hayward Palace, buy-in deep and double kill it every hand making it $20 to go each time. Maybe if you're lucky someone else will take over once in awhile . Meanwhile, there's always the 45 minute or so drive to Manteca... Garland |

[/ QUOTE ] Rather than play guesswork with the specifics, I decided to copy and paste from a website the rules of time collection: Time Collection (and other stuff regarding rake) from Caro and Cooke's Rules of Real Poker [ QUOTE ] TIME COLLECTION Time collections are paid by each player to the dealer when due, usually when the dealer enters the box. Time collections are always paid in advance. A typical time charge might be $5 per half hour at one limit, $7 per half hour at a higher limit. When time collection is due, each player shall post the amount of the collection in front of him, and the dealer shall collect it starting with the player immediately to the dealer's left. In some stud games time is taken from the antes. The dealer will make the collection immediately after pulling the antes into the pot area. The dealer shall take collection from the stack of any player not at the table. A player who enters a game within five minutes after time is collected (when paid in half hour increments) shall be required to pay time. A player entering more than five minutes after time is collected shall not be required to pay time. Time shall be not be pro-rated. If a game breaks within fifteen minutes after collection, the last time collected shall be refunded to the players. [/ QUOTE ] Hope it helps. Garland |

Re: Mini-Trip Report: Artichoke Joes’ new no-limit game.
ah, thanks garland. yeah that makes sense. just to clarify one point:
"A player who enters a game within five minutes after time is collected (when paid in half hour increments) shall be required to pay time. A player entering more than five minutes after time is collected shall not be required to pay time. Time shall be not be pro-rated." does this mean that i could theoretically get like 20-25 "free" minutes by entering 6 minutes after they collect time? i wouldn't have to pay until the next collection 24 minutes later? obviously i won't have much control over this as i'll be sitting when a seat opens up, but i'm just curious. |

[/ QUOTE ] In short, yeah. If you get in more than 5 minutes after the dealer push, you can potentially get 24 free minutes of poker. Now, keep in mind that 85% of the time (give or take 5%) you will be entering within 5 minutes of the last time collection. Why? You'll be entering when someone else wants to leave at the precise time the casino wishes to collect the time rake (when a new dealer comes in). It's possible to enter when a player busts out and doesn't wish to continue forfeiting the rest of his time, and it's also possible to enter when the game is short and there's an open seat. Garland |
