Default 2-4 live

I have been playing 2-4 while waiting for other games and I have begun to wonder, is it even worth it. %10 rake up to $4 and you get limpers w 62s and 93 off calling off chips and winning obv sometimes but not longterm. Is there +EV to playing this type of game?

Depends. Can you average 1.5/hr in it? That's about the only way it's worth it after rake and tips, I think.

Frankly, the rake is such in games lower than 6/12 where I feel it isn't even worth my time. I would never play lower than that seriously, including if I were to go el busto. I wouldn't play again until I could afford 6/12.

You seem to think they're calling off chips with xy and ZX etc. is bad.

At least partially.

The game is probably beatable, but not by much.

I played it a lot when I was bored playing nl online and still fresh to poker, and I averaged a decent to good winrate, but now I am thinking that playing the 2-4 game is not even worth my time, even if I'm waiting for another game.

Like I said, if you take the monies seriously you shouldn't play lower than like 6/12 live.

What about the fact that you can make up for the rake by playing very unskilled opponents?

If something isn't worth your time while doing nothing, it is -EV.

You'd have to be freakin' Schneids to take home more than one bet an hour after the rake.

I think this goes against the conventional wisdom of the forums, but if you're properly rolled for live 2/4 ($1200<, right?) I would say you're better off scrounging up another $600-$1000 and playing 6/12 on a short roll than you are trying to beat the rake, tips and variance at 2/4 in a futile attempt to eke out $3 an hour.

I think I can beat 4/8 for at least 10/hour even with the 4+1 flat drop here in los angeles. I'd be interested in prop betting this with someone. PM if interested.
