Except you can't say the Yanks have the best pitching right now when you have almost zero evidence supporting that claim. Therefore your argument is solely based on future faith, hence my post.

[/ QUOTE ]

Past performance is not indicative of future results.

You must really suck at understanding the stock market.

The fact that you fail to see the difference is unsurprising.

he is saying that looking at a companies (or pitchers) fundamentals and making (sometimes qualitative) intelligent adjustments is more important in predicting future performance than drawing a straight line from actual recent results.

it's why, it's, like, hard to do.

Still, you can say their recent results are an aberration, or that they made some change that will help their future results, but saying "Past performance is not indicative of future results" in regards to baseball is obviously ridiculous.

Meh. Beckett & Daisuke are better than any 2 Yankee starters. Schilling and Mussina are equal. Yankee 4 & 5 better than Red Sox 4 & 5.

Stats say Sox bullpen is better(pre-Gagne) Papelbon = Rivera. We'll see how your young guys handle the stretch run.

I'll now yield to any Tiger fan who wants to compare their staff to the Yankees.

In season this really doesn't work. Strip the luck from the Yankees staff. It's still not close to the best pitching in baseball. None of the young arms they've added in-season have shown any proof of being capable of performing at the level they would have to in order to substantiate the claim. In baseball, at this point of the season, past performance IS reliable, and if you're suggesting the future will hold something dramatically different from this sizeable four month sample size, you better have a lot of evidence. They have none.

On a player level, Andruw Jones comes to mind.

[/ QUOTE ]

he's been playing hurt all year, so he has a decent excuse. If he weren't so good on defense, he would've been rested long ago, and his numbers wouldn't look as bad in all likelihood.
