Default Speaking is not always a good idea in live games

I was thinking about this hand tonight as it has probably happened to me 4 or 5 times in my poker career.

1/2 NL at Turning Stone

Battle for the blinds...

Hero is dealt J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

Hero checks, SB checks.

Flop 2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

SB checks, hero checks.

Turn 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

Hero checks, SB bets $5, hero calls.

River J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

Hero checks (hoping for bluff or bet from 9 obviously), SB in stupid sophisticated voice explains that he doesn't think I have the jack, so he is going to bet his 9. SB bets $10, hero insta-mucks.

The SB proceeded to show his 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] and received compliments from around the table for his acting job. The moral of this story: Hitting a big hand doesn't mean you have to be a cocky [censored].

So you check preflop, and SB checks behind. So SB checks the flop, and you check behind. So you check the turn and call a bet. And you check/fold the river.

Does not compute at all.

Very strange hand, the action makes no sense, and seems to be mostly BBV material.
