Default Amazing comebacks

We haven't done this in a while and a game yesterday is alone worthy of a post.

Yesterday in the semifinal of the second leg of the Spanish cup competition, Barcelona and Getafe were playing to see who would play against Sevilla in the final.

Barça won the first leg at home 5-2. This meant that they needed to do better than losing by less than 3 goals to advance to the final (or less likely lose by 3 scoring 2 or more). Barcelona is a huge club, probably one of the 10 strongest in the world and second in Spain. They have won this competition 24 times (most in Spain). Getafe is a small club that has won no titles, never even made the final of this competition, and has only spent 3 seasons in the top flight in their history. As you can predict, they advanced, crushing Barça 4-0 at home.

In recent soccer history there have been three other amazing comebacks. The above was in a match where a team went in down by three goals (well 2.5). These were all within.

In the quarterfinal and semifinal of the UEFA Cup last year Middlesborough found themselves down in the second leg needing four goals and coming back to win. In the quarterfinal they lost the first leg away 2-0. In the second leg they were down 0-1 after a goal in the 23rd minute. This meant that they needed 4 goals to advance because of the away-goals rule. They scored in the 33rd to go into halftime needing 3 more, which they got in the 57th, 79th, and the 90th minute. In the semifinal first leg they again lost away, this time 1-0. At home they went down 0-2 in the 24th minute. So once again they needed 4 goals and had about 65 minutes to do it. They scored in the 33rd and so once again went into halftime needing 3 second-half goals. They got a goal in the 64th, 73rd and 89th minute. So in both of these ties, they made the winning goal in the last few minutes of the match. The same guy scored both.

Probably the most famous comeback was the 2005 Champions League Final. This year btw is a rematch of that final - Liverpool vs AC Milan. Maldini for Milan scored in the first minute of the match, which by itself is amazing because he's one of the best defenders ever. Then Crespo scored in the 39th and just before half time to make it 3-0 for Milan. Gerrard scored in the 54th minute to make it 3-1. Two minutes later Smicer scored making it 3-2 and 6 minutes after that Xabi Alonso scored hitting in a blocked penalty to tie it at 3-3. Shevchenko had a couple of great chances to put Milan back on top late in regulation but couldn't and Liverpool won on penalties when the Liverpool keeper saved Shevchenko's penalty.

Man I vividly remember watching the last one bc my buddy was a huge TB fan. I mean that game was over, I think we had the PS2 turned on right after the 1 of 3 TDs and then decided to finish watching it. It was a great game.

Kentucky came back from 31 down with ~15 minutes to go in the game to beat LSU in a basketball game in 1994.

i've tried to search for this before with no luck, but i remember being at a warriors game and we were down something like 11 with just over a minute to play...

spreewell scored the last 12 points of the game and we won.

my numbers are probably off, but it was definitely more then 10 points.
