El D,

People cook everyday. It's tough (or inconvenient) to search for specific food threads. A food/drink forum would make it very easy to find an assortment of recipes with little effort. I think people would contribute there much more than TLDR.

[/ QUOTE ]

Though you won't get 2+2'ers private recipes or feedback, there are plenty of places to get a good assortment of recipes with little effort ( food network, for instance ). Call me crazy, but I don't come to 2+2 for cooking advice.

Resteraunt advice or a friendly home for drunken posts might be ok, but do those really rate their own forum?

fnord,

As you say, plenty of excellent sites for those looking for recipes. Of course, last time I mentioned something like this, Sniper accused me of being a subversive rep of the other sites trying to bring down 2+2, hahahaha.

The poll results are ridiculous. Of course people that are forcing this agenda are going to vote more vociferously (including their gimmick accounts) than those who aren't mobilized on the issue.

The annoying thing is that this has a familiar theme at 2+2: bitch and moan ad nauseum about getting a forum for a specific topic and then TPTB will relent and further tear apart the fabric of OOT. I hope it doesn't happen this time, but I'm obviously not holding my breath.

F&D forum is a terrible idea. I hope El D's vote counts for 20 in order to table this for now.

tug: A 28 vote sample is basically 100% meaningless.

Food and Drink forum - YES!

[/ QUOTE ]

Since I assume Mat has already made his decision, I want to wade in after the fact with some judicious suggestions.

First, just a Food and Drink forum is not enough. We need something very American. Thus, I suggest we have an ATFFE- that is: Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, Food and Explosives (we could call it At-Fee). Patterned after the ATF, a quintessential American institution ( ATF ).

I would immediately make a post about smoking my clandestine acquired Cuban Romeo Y Julieta cigars while shooting my 45 auto at pictures of Ray Zee, and enjoying a barbeque at the gun range and drinking single malt scotch and discussing where and how to get my next shipment of comp B with my cohorts of questionable taste, dignity, and adhereness to laws.

This mix and match type of forum simply reeks with untold possibilities and popularity.

Too much concentration of late has been placed on the mundane, the lackluster, the gimcrack forums, and even the dreaded high brow and worthy. One almost thinks Jeeves is hidden behind the woodwork pulling strings and influencing the cerebral minds of the higher ups that run this institution of higher learning.

I simple make mention of this and pass on.

It's not an agenda fwiw, I just think it's a good idea and support it. I only voted once too
