As played, what about a river check/call? Might snap off a bluff trying to fold you out of KK/QQ, and it gets us to showdown.

I don't think villain will be calling the river bet with much of his range. Those times villain raises AI on the river, the hero finds himself in a difficult spot getting over 4:1 on a call and not knowing where he stands. I think checking the river may induce a bluff or occasionally a value bet from a weaker A, and will protect hero from getting stuck in a tough decision where he will sometimes make an expensive mistake. |

i think check/call is worse. big pairs from the villain are gonna be checking behind almost always, since they have pretty good showdown value. most opponents aren't willing to turn their good hand into a pure bluff when they can check for free and have the pot shipped to them a % of the time.
