If you look closely, Jack Cust actually keeps his eyes closed until he hears the ball come off the pitcher's fingertips.

Question: With the bases loaded and one out in a one run game and Cust at the plate, (like tonight) the sabermetrically correct play was to walk him, right?

actually the correct play is to forfeit. he's going to hit a home run no matter what you do, so it's best avoid the whiplash your pitcher might suffer trying to follow the ball leaving the state.
