Re: thoughts and another story
Maybe its different areas of teh country, but I view any asian whining about "asian invasions" or "bowing" as ridiculous as an Italian whining about the greaseball pizza maker on teh Simpsons.

Re: thoughts and another story
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] okay how about this for another story. when i was 16 or 17, i was driving up to canada with my family. we were stopped in traffic around the american/canadian checkpoint when this minivan came up along side of us. a 7 or 8 year old white boy popped his head out of the window, looked at us in our car and shouted out "are you part of the yellow invasion?!" [/ QUOTE ] IMO, this is WAAAYYYYYYY worse. 1. Its likely that this kid heard this crap from his parents. Which is sad, that he's already picking up stupid beliefs from them. 2. "Yellow Invasion" is much more malicious then the girl bowing. It implies a "take over" of the country. Stealing jobs. blah blah blah. [/ QUOTE ] This is correct. The bow is worth an eye-roll but this might be an actual beatdown situation. [/ QUOTE ] Yes, by all means beatdown a 7 yr old kid who really has no clue as to what he's saying. b |

Re: thoughts and another story
[ QUOTE ]
The only possible reason they could look down upon someone for their race is because their parents do. [/ QUOTE ] The kid didn't necesarily learn that from his parents. 7-8 year olds are sponges that could learn that just about anywhere. Even in their 1st grade class from some other kid. I would look at his parents to gauge their reaction to it though. b |

Re: thoughts and another story
I'd say that the dictionary definition of "racist" as presented by pergesu is possibly appropriate when describing a person, but not necessarily a thought or action. I feel like the distinction between racist people and racist thoughts is a pretty big one that often gets neglected. I think this is a major part of the problem. I think most people probably have some racist ideas in their head, even if they're not aware of it. Fear of being vilified as a racist probably makes it difficult for them to be honest about it with themselves, which seems like a key step towards progress.

Re: Wow, that was racist
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] does a 60 degree bow [/ QUOTE ] This is funny. I wonder if anyone else sees why (no, it has nothing to do with Asians and math). Also, at the very second I finished reading the original post, Marcy D'Arcy and Jefferson D'Arcy offended Pat Morita by feeding him sushi on Married... With Children. SpaceAce [/ QUOTE ] Weird. I just saw Pat Morita play a small role as a butler on an episode of Columbo shortly before I read the thread. Pat Morita is everywhere!! |

[/ QUOTE ] Well, my comment didn't draw flies, but in another thread I referenced a B-movie called Night Patrol, in which Pat Morita plays a rape victim...with a female's voice dubbed over his. Very strange. |

Re: Wow, that was racist
[ QUOTE ]
and i turn to my friend and go "Wow, that was really racist!" [/ QUOTE ] This is why I live about as far from California as I can get. Y'all way too sensitive. Around here she would have at least gotten a "Damn, girl. You bend over just as easy as your momma." Jeez, that pc got y'all whipped. |
