Default Easy laydown or crying call?

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (6 handed) pokerhand.org hand converter

MP ($125.15)
CO ($6.75)
Button ($61.80)
SB ($11.95)
Hero ($50)
UTG ($48.50)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].
3 folds, Button raises to $1.5, 1 fold, Hero calls $1.

Flop: ($3.25) K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks, Button checks.

Turn: ($3.25) 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets $2, Button calls $2.

River: ($7.25) 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $5, Hero ???

The check on the flop was interesting as was the call on the turn. He could've called with an ace high perhaps, but would he bet anything but K on this river?

I think you summed up this hand well with your closing statement.

Interesting check on the flop and call on the turn but I don't see him not having a K after betting the river.

I bet the river for value, about 4 should make it. As played I call.

His check on the flop indicated that he had a King. Fold the river.

No it doesn't, he could very well have a high PP that got scared on the flop.

As played I'm calling the river, normally I'd fire a 4$ river bet.

Funnily often, people do in fact check when they hit their jackpot hand. It sucks and keeps the pot small of course, plus it's really suspicious. Then again, sometimes people just shut down if they don't hit with like AQ or something.

But would he bet river with high PP, hoping for a call from A high or something like JJ- in case he holds AA/QQ.

Well I'm not really into villains mind here, but I imagine he 'might' think;
Crap KK8 now QQ sucks if someone has a K: check behind.
Turn; hmm he bets but he checked flop so he might not have anything, lets call.
River; Oh look now he checks again, probably not a K so my QQ is good !!
(insert 99-JJ and AA if you wish)

Just saying that villains range is larger than just a K here, and that high PP's are definitley capable of taking this line.

Remember guys making the "big laydown" isn't always a good move nor is it usually profitable over time. This is micro no limit, there are plenty of people who don't know what they are doing. At least call the river, folding would be really weak in my opinion.

I agree with Kong here. Your line doesn´t exactly scream boat and villain could easily think his hand is best whith his PP and many villains will allways bet their hand when they think they are ahead, never giving a thought to which hands might call them.
