Re: I MUST learn to STOP SEEING GHOSTS
Whenever you hit the nonnut flush, you should assume that you have the best hand, until you get further evidence.
Further evidence, in this case, would be a reraise by your opponents. |

Re: I MUST learn to STOP SEEING GHOSTS
Any K is betting this and likely any smaller flush is betting as well...this draw must pay to hit a FH on river. I also raise this PF OTB. As said above - raise until you are reraised.

I also raise this PF OTB. [/ QUOTE ] I call this BACKRAISING ....does this board have a term for it? Do you tend to raise if you play from the button or LP? or do you only raise one limper? or is it hand dependent? or player dependent? I have been told to only BACKRAISE with ATs+,KQ,KJs,88+,QJs Do you agree with this? |

Re: I MUST learn to STOP SEEING GHOSTS
Mickey,
The principle at work is a balance between two things: your current equity above your fair share, versus the high implied odds when you get in with good drawing hands cheap. Against the very weak limping ranges I'm often against, I operate on the belief that T9s is right on the line there, and J9s is a bit worse. I don't think you're losing much whichever way you go with J9s. Just don't start raising 87s behind limpers "for value". And don't stop raising KJs behind several loose limpers, or you're missing out on a ton of preflop equity. |

In the hand decribed I like to put Villan on KQ-KT with a possible but NOT probable Qd. Others in the hand have weak holdings (weak Ace, pp, and flop draws) and your bet should get them to fold eating their equity and bringing your equity up to nearly 85 percent on the turn. With 85 percent equity you should expect to win this hand 85 percent of the time and even more with passive play preflop. |

Re: I MUST learn to STOP SEEING GHOSTS
In response to the way to think about situations like this, some of the other posts have kind of eluded to it. Don't just think about what the other players could have that beat you, think about all of their possible holdings. Of all the possible hands that your opponents could be playing like this, you crush the vast majority of them. Of course they could have a better hand, but if you only raise when you have the nuts you're going to miss way too many bets.
