I had been playing fairly straight forward TAG, 20/17 or whatever and he hadn't been either a nit nor a maniac. What hand would you put villain on with this action and what would you call or fold turn?

Tough hand. I think he has a draw hee often enough to make calling +EV.

Do you think he plays 99 like that? The 5 was a super card for you, because it`s now very unlikely that he has 55.
Aq would b hoible, but possible.

Yep i would call!

Umm, fold? "He has AK"? what is this, HBO comedy hour?

I'm curious why you'd fire the turn after having just been C/R'ed on the previous street.

Well actually because you don't get c/red twice too often. A bluff usually follows up with a turn bet and gives up on the river a lot of the time. I mix up valuebetting and checking this turn with the intention of calling a river bet, or VB the river if checked to. But this line is so standard, I though it'd be fun to mix it up.

That's fine, as long as having it fun by mixing it up makes you feel OK when he shoves the turn against your marginal hand for 108xBB.
