[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Oddly enough a bic lighter also fits in there perfectly, although I usually get some pretty strange looks when I use one to keep the gas flowing. [/ QUOTE ] yeah, I can't imagine anything going wrong with exposing a potential source of fire to open flowing gas [/ QUOTE ] Better stay away from the sun, and lightning bolts while pumping gas while you're at it! [/ QUOTE ] lightning bolts want to be free |

Re: Lazy way to pump gas

But, the pump you showed a picture of has an auto-hold feature. Perhaps it was broken or something, but that metal clip right in front of your gas cap will hold the pump on if you push it down after you start pumping. Or maybe that wasn't a pic of the pump in question? Or maybe lol? [/ QUOTE ] The clip doesn't stay, the place it locks into on the bottom of the pump doesn't lock. This is true of many gas stations around me. I don't know if they do it on purpose |

Are you serious Apathy? Pumps have an auto shutoff feature. [/ QUOTE ] Can't you override these by holding in the handle? The auto shutoff I'm familiar with, the auto latch pops. With the gas cap jammed in, won't the auto shutoff not work? |

With the gas cap jammed in, won't the auto shutoff not work? [/ QUOTE ] No. None of these that I've ever seen have had the auto-shutoff associated at all with the latch thing. Every time when my gas gets done I have to undo the auto latch and then remove the pump. It's all done with the flow of the gas somehow. Presumably when the pressure increases by x against the flow, then it triggers it to stop. (Increase in pressure is created by the gasoline level getting high enough to reach the end of the nozzle.) |

[ QUOTE ] mia, Oregon has those gay no-pump laws also. From what I've heard it's to help reduce unemployment by forcing gas stations to hire people to pump gas. WTF. [/ QUOTE ] Oregon just sucks dicks. [/ QUOTE ] My impression is that this rule is more about idiots blowing themselves up than anything else. I'm sure I've told my story about almost killing a guy by driving off while he was trying to pump my gas. Do not like Oregon one bit. Will be going thing in a week. |

Re: Lazy way to pump gas
I worked at a gas station in Toronto when I was younger(like 10 years ago) and we were told to turn off the pumps of anyone we see doing this since it's apparently illegal here to have auto-holds(use to be legal hence why a lot of the older pumps look like they have them just not working). The only people we let do it were the car jockeys from the 10 or so car dealerships across the street since they would spend the better part of the day pumping gas.
As for the reason the auto-holds aren't legal my best guess is to avoid someone setting it then just leaving the nozzle on the ground or something flooding the area with gas? Or if the pump doesn't turn off automatically when the tank is full to stop it from flooding the area with gas(This happened more often then you'd think but with someone there they obviously stop then go bitch at you for getting gas on the side of their car) |

Re: Lazy way to pump gas
aren't they illegal so people don't start moving around collecting static electricity by reentering the car, combing their hair etc?
