the higher the limit the more buyins per level you need, at 2/4 you can maybe survive with 25 buy ins, at 5/10 it needs to be a hundred if poker is your income

I personally think it's way too nitty in general if you have a good grip on things and are able to move down when running bad. 50+ should be fine although i would prob prefer to have 60ish for 5/10 and 70-80 for 10/20 before i would play them regularly.

[ QUOTE ]
100 buyins would cost you a lot of money. If you are beating the current level for a good clip you should be taking small shots with 20-30 buyins for the next level. As long as you are fine with moving down if it doesn't go well there is no reason not to be playing the highest level you have an edge in.

Bumping this thread because of this comment.

I think this 100 BIs BR question an intersting one. Along the same line, what is an optimal BR strategy upon taking shots? Is it 20-30 BIs? 5-10 BIs?

Let's say you have a 50 BI policy at any level, do you wait until you have 10 BIs at the new level in order to take a proper shot? Is 5 BIs too little?

Ty.

Its not about how many buyins you have for the level at whcih you are taking a shot. Its about how many buyins you have for your regular game after hitting your stop loss while taking the shot.

Say you want a 50BI roll for your reg game NL 100. You currently have 54 BI and take a 1 BI shot at 2/4. YOu lose it hand one, go grind it back, no big deal. I usually dont like taking 1 BI shots, but thats just an example.

For 10/20 and above anything less than 100 buyins is naive. People tend to sober up after their first 30 buyin downswing

Not a total hijack, but how is this affected if you:

- play on a smaller site with no more than 2-4 tables of a limit running
- get significant rakeback (50-100%+)?

i cant speak for 5/10 and above, but if you are a strong winning player at 2/4-3/6 then 100 buyins is way too conservative imo. whilst i still believe that 30 is adequate for these limits, i do think 50 is a good compromise in that its not too conservative while at the same time reducing the risk of needing to drop down from a bad run to almost zero.
