Default Odd blind situation

Does this scenario make sense?

From some other 2p2 forum:

[ QUOTE ]
Due to somebody leaving on their button or blind, it's one of those hands where there are two BBs and the button posts a SB. I am directly left of the button but post the BB.

[/ QUOTE ]

I've played maybe 500 hours live in Vegas, CT and AC, and I've never seen anything like this. I've been at table where BB wanders off in which case there's only a BB in the following hand. Maybe above is a Cali thing?

Moving button. Basically it's a way to be sure everybody pays their two blinds every round, while also being sure there is never a dead button. A bit messy and not used in TDA tournaments nor any Vegas room I know of.

this happens in places with a "forward moving button" rule. the idea is to prevent a player from having the advantage of the button for two hands in a row.

it is common in California (especially rooms where there is some sort of rake-related blind posted OTB) and is used at Harvey's Lake Tahoe. i have never seen it in Vegas.

So instead someone gets the advantage of paying their small blind on the button. I hate this rule. The first time I saw it in LA I was appalled. Of course, the quality of the games makes up for any bad rules they could possibly think of.

I'd rather have a small blind on the button than having someone get to act last two hands in a row. Effectively getting the button twice is much more of an advantage.

You think someone acting last two hands in a row when they would normally act last one hand and next to last the next hand is more of an advantage than getting to put in the small blind in the best position with 2 big blinds in first position instead of putting it in in worst position agianst one big blind?

The forward moving button was invented becasue there were games where the button paid money to the casino and the casino needed to collect that every hand. This is not to be confused with the forward moving button traditionally used in NL and PL games. In those games the button moved forward each hand and the players to the left of (or in same 3 blind games on) the button paid the blinds because in those games the button is much more important and if someone skips on a blind it is not a big deal.

So, it is basically a leftover from the structure whereby the button pays the rake. That kinda makes sense in the way that things that don't make sense do.

Thanks for the comment.

I have never seen the forward moving button in Las Vegas (other than NL games). I have never seen a forward moving button in a tournament, but I have been told some places on the Gulf coast will use it in tournaments.
