Ethics: You find a wallet, how much $ in it to make you just take it?
alright, let me start out with a brag, I am in an airport right now, and a couple hours ago (read: I've been in the damn airport several hours...) I was in the bathroom when I saw some guys wallet sitting next to the shitter. I am proud to say I just grabbed it on my way out and then handed it off to the security guard who for some reason was waiting right outside the bathroom (who then probably pocketed the cash and tossed the rest...).
I debated opening it to see what was in it, who owned it, etc. but did not, I figured depending on what was inside I might be tempted to alter my course of action. which raised this very interesting ethical question; if you found a wallet, how much cash would it have to have inside for you to take it? this thought jumped into my mind, and I think that was why I didn't even open the wallet, because I thought if the thing had a bunch of cash in it I'd be tempted to just yoink and run. How much cash would it need to have for you to take the money and run (also consider, taking it is low risk, the bathroom was empty)? |

I once found a wallet with $300 at the Brown Line stop. I turned it in immediately. That amount was a lot to me back at that time, so I'd like to think I'd return a much greater sum now without hesitation.
Whether you're religious or not, the Golden Rule is a pretty good idea. |

If it's a nice wallet, it's mine. the guy can have what's inside though.

Is it weird that I voted for depends on owner and that I'd return any sum?
If its someone I like or don't know, they get the wallet back whether its empty or has $100k. If its my sworn enemy, I take the cash and toss the rest on the sidewalk. |

return no matter what. I wouldn't even bother to search it and count the money in it.

If it belongs to someone under the age 10, I'd definitely return it, regardless of the amount of money in there.
