I haven't read it but this thread proves that there aren't enough games going on.

Most people around my area just say "81" (for Interstate 81) or "70" (for I-70) for the two interstates. "Take 81 South to 70 East to ..."

[/ QUOTE ]
This is very standard.

[/ QUOTE ]

This would be comically illiterate here and in the UK.

"Take the M1 south" every time.

[/ QUOTE ]
Would you say turn onto the Main St. or take the 3rd Ave north?

[/ QUOTE ]

No, never.

I don't know why not.

Where I live a steamer definitely isn't something you'd want to find on your plate.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah I've heard that one, too.

A "steamer" (or "sloppy joe") is basically hamburger that's been chopped up, put in a slow cooker, mixed with lots of ketchup, mustard and whatever else you want to add (onions, peppers, etc.), then spooned onto rolls for sandwiches.

[/ QUOTE ]

There's another one. "Hamburger" for us is never minced beef, only ever the patty you form from it. I'd never buy a kilo of hamburger, only ever a kilo of hamburgers.

And yes, I'll frequently say "We need a pound of hamburger when we go grocery shopping today" ... even though it's really a pound of ground beef.

Actually, you buy a pound of hamburg, so you can make hamburgers

LOL, no.

I could turn this language analysis thread sexual, too ... but I won't.
