the thing is, there really arent that many MTTs you should be playing on a $300 br

so just play cash for a while and grind your br up to like 1k-1500, then start playing like the small rebuys and 10 FOs and 20/180s and stuff if youre still interested in playing MTTs

Another pro of MTTs is that you encounter many different and interesting situations. MTT's are much less monotonous than cash games.

Prolly best advice in this thread.

A close second is to "play both."

maybe if he's a professional.

but most pros probably have more than 300...if he has another job to supplement his BR, than 300 is plenty to play $10s, etc.

yeah but even for amateurs, reloading is a bit demoralizing and you feel like a degen. i think in general people will enjoy poker a lot more if they have a poker bankroll that they play within the limits of, and grind that up without redepositing, albeit a bit more slowly.

i think for $300 a good start is getting good at SitNGos, starting at the $6 turbo level and working from there. It at least rewards you with placement finishes (which is fun when you're just starting out).

Im wondering if the 45-man sng's would be good to help OP build his roll if he did decide to "play both"?

Absolutely, but they aren't really MTTs. From the standpoint of strictly playing MTTs on a $300 BR, there really aren't that many great ones to choose from.

I play both for the reasons u stated.

Plus cash game experience makes your post flop play infinitely better than most straight-up MTT players.

A healthy balance of both is best IMO.
