Calculus software?

I need to get Calculus problem-doing software and was wondering if anybody has any tips/suggestions e.g. they have some and it works well.

Get Mathematica for straight up Calculus problem solving. It's pretty expensive if you buy it legit, but poke around and I'm sure you can find a trial-version at the very least.

If you're interesting in modeling systems and incorporating a bit of coding a program called MatLab is probably a bit better.

I would start with those two and see where it leads you.

ehhh I would just use the wolfram integrator instead of matlab. There are whole college courses on the use of matlab and how discrete time signals vary from continuous time. There are some very big differences. And my guess is that you are not expecting discrete math answers so it would be of little help to you other than estimating.

If you are doing any kind of science or engineering field, however, I stongly recommend you procure Matlab.

You can pick up a student version of Matlab for ~$100. Of course then you have to learn the Matlab language which can be a little frustrating at first (at least it was for me...I have no other programming experience). Once you get the hang of it it can be extremely helpful in any math based course.

We use matlab every day for sims and coding, but for straight calculus (ie 'exact' analytic answers, and not 'near exact' approximations), then you definitely need mathematica.

If you're a student, go to www.journeyed.com, where you can buy alot of this stuff for WAY cheap.

There is also the open-source program Octave ( http://www.gnu.org/software/octave/ ). It is "mostly Matlab compatible". For symbolic calculation, I'm told that Matlab can be integrated with Mathematica.
