One of my professors used to joke that when the US government runs up a big debt the dollar seems to lose value so that we pay the debt off in weaker money but then when we have a decent budget or surplus like in Clinton years the dollar is stronger.

DISCLAIMER: Not sure if this is true or not, too lazy to research it. Would be nice to know dollar strength to debt held ratio over the years.

I'm pretty sure it's reciprocal. They need our oil/wood/uranium/gold/obv many manufactured goods/etc, we need their entertainment and bank notes that we can trade for Chinese [censored].

You DO understand that trade is usually beneficial to both parties, right?
