Default Best bet for poker in El Paso area.

I am going to be moving to El Paso from New York within the next year and I was wondering what I had to look forward to poker-wise. Live, I usually play in the 2/5 to 5/10nl ranges.

Thanks to anyone with some info for me.

Casinos? I think Mescalero is your closest one, and you might want to drive the 4 hours or whatever to Abq and play at Sandia.

There used to be some sort of poker room out in West Texas, I believe, but it was closed by the time I passed through there in fall 2004.

I lived in El Paso (Ft. Bliss) for two years and made several trips to NM. The casino is really nice and they spread 1/2 - 5/10nl. It's about a 2 1/2 hour drive www.innofthemountaingods.com The poker room in West Texas did close several years ago, but I heard they have plans to build a new one. Also, they have home games near UTEP and Ft. Bliss and bar/pool hall games.

Thanks for the info dconley7. That place looks decent. I never like to see a poker room with limited hours, but hopefully it picks up a bit on the weekends. Anyone ever been there to play the 2/5 or 5/10nl and can comment on the games?

I visited on a weekday in fall 2004 and found one $2-10 spread game that came close to breaking when the tournament started. However, someone edited this description of mine:
[ QUOTE ]
The '''Inn of the Mountain Gods''' in Mescalero, New Mexico, is a small poker room of ''nine tables''. Strictly in poker terms, this room has little to offer in comparison to the larger Albuquerque rooms such as [[Sandia]]. However, if you find yourself in the mountain region around Ruidoso and want to play as soon as possible, or if you just desire to play in an environment that evokes images of the Wild West, with opponents who seem sent in by Central Casting, then Mescalero is worth a visit.

[/ QUOTE ]

calling it obsolete, so I have to think it's gotten better.
