Hero raises to $22, UTG+1 folds, CO calls, 3 folds.

Not much of a read on vilain, solid but probably too loose and too passive.

I'd like it a lot more if the 8 was the heart and not the 3. Thus negating any chance he picked up a back door flush draw on the turn and hit on the river.

Really bad without history. You want him to call what? 87? 77? Not going to happen. 99/TT even JJ/QQ are a decent chunk of his range and don't fold very often.

My standard in these kind of situations would be to check the 9. I dont see it as a value gaining card, I see it as a card that will allow me to check, and call if he bets. I would expect to check/call and win a lot of the time.

Seeing as though most other posters disagree with this, I'd be interested in learning a bit more about how you guys see this as a value bet.

Disregarding metagame factors, my thinking would be that he is definitely calling me down with something and the chances of that something being any less than a pair of 9's is quite slim....actually hash that...the chances of him calling down AND calling my river bet with anything less are too slim to warrant seeking more value from this hand.

Is there not more value in checking the river and allowing him to bluff? His line could easily be a float to the river with the intention of representing the 3. With the king out there as well it must make him that much more less likely to call us with a worse hand

Would a river bet not be better after NOT hitting, whereas now our hand has showdown value?

Lol no. Our hand seems to be around the cut-off imo where worse hands fold and better hands call usually.

lol dont you dare tell me you dont get called by 87/A8s/77 type hands here!

Who cares if he "can't" call with those hands. Let him make the tough decision. All we know is that we have the best hand a large % of the time and hes not betting a worse hand when we check to him, SO LETS BET IT!

NH.

ho hum, not in my experience, but I can concievably see that some people do. Maybe not as bad as I first thought, but still a bit too thin imo.
